This presentation gives an overview of the R+D+i project "H5P interactive content and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in foreign language teaching, social sciences and pre-service teacher education" (Reference: CIGE/2021/131, https://ci5ods.blogs.uv.es/) funded by the Conselleria d'Innovació, Universitats, Ciència i Societat Digital, Generalitat Valenciana (Spain).
In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda. This Agenda establishes 17 Sustainable Development Goals that aim to achieve a better future for all. Higher education is a key actor in meeting the SDGs.
H5P (short for HTML5 Package) is a free and open technology that allows teachers to create, modify, share and reuse more than 60 types of interactive and multimedia content. H5P is integrated with LMS platforms like Moodle, Canvas and Blackboard.
The project goals are to introduce the SDGs in university degrees in teaching, research the potential of H5P in the field of education and offer training in the pedagogical use of H5P to the teaching and research staff and to students.
The experiences of introducing the SDGs in teaching have been successful. The data suggests that students have been involved in the activities and have been able to design materials involving one or more SDGs. The latter is fundamental because pre-service teachers will teach ensuing generations. Research on H5P has offered productive insight related to its implementation in the classroom. H5P workshops have been offered to students and teachers. Data indicates that the training was successful, as students and teachers could create H5P materials. In addition, H5P video tutorials have been recorded and shared with the community. Moreover, two conferences have been organized to reflect and promote the SDGs and H5P, and the conference proceedings have been published open access. Finally, two book chapters are in press, and a questionnaire on the SDGs for pre-service teachers is currently under development.
