In the field of education, whatever is happening because of technology, is triggering an intellectual revolution. The fundamental changes that the tactics and theories of reading are going through have inspired the current study which took place at the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang of Bangkok. The purpose of the experiment was a paradigm shift in teaching about reading strategies, types of texts, and theories of reading for critical analysis. A ‘Critical Reading’ course taught to undergraduate English major students was used to see the possibilities of the impact of the recent changes in the area on pedagogy. Reading has become like a lifelong learning culture and nowadays readers are bound to cultivate critical reading strategies due to the inflow of a variety of digital texts. Without critical reading skills navigating the digital text inflow is stressful in the current world of mass social media-based networking. Typical reading strategies are not always effective or possible for digital reading. For teaching critical reading, understanding of the characteristics of digital texts was felt necessary including the knowledge of the changes that reading strategies are going through. Instead of the typical methods, word clouds, text mining, and online paraphrasing tools were used and all those worked satisfactorily in enhancing critical reading skills. Students, with the help of the tools and critical analysis, could analyze the texts from Twitter, discuss, and predict the result of America’s general election in an uncomplicated way. Students could show an understanding of narrative building on social media.
