Presentation Type: Technology Showcase

All presentation times are UTC + 7 (Asia/Bangkok)

This presentation is intended to introduce two major Al products for languages learning developed by an A.I. startup company, Edutem, Inc of Republic of Korea. The first one is an e-library system for English learning which consists of the following features: 1) diagnosis of reading levels, 2) assignment of levels to the readers, 3) various personalized learning activities by utilizing Al technology. The e-library system diagnose language learners’ entry level of vocabulary and speaking abilities(mainly pronunciation accuracy). Then, it recommends to learners a language reader consummate with their level diagnosed by the e-system. Finally, learners can take a course of the reader recommended to them at their will. Their learning of this reader includes listening to and reading the colorful cartoon typed stories loudly, and practice shadow reading playing with their native language. They can do various comprehension exercises on the reader with which they played at the previous stage. The e-library system also provides the LMS through which teachers monitor the learning of students at all stages.

The other one is an Al Engine which encompasses such technology as ASR and speech separation and synthesis, AI chunking, and NLU/NLG. This AI engine enables learners to learn English, Korean, Chinese and Spanish, which will not only enhance their learning motivation, but also reduce the time for reaching their next level. This solution entails six types of languages learning (English, Korean, Chinese, and Spanish): 1) Speech Recognition exercises (TTS/STT), 2) Listening and Speaking practices, 3) Phonics, 4) GPT based Grammar Practices, 5) Languages Learning through NLP technology, 6) OCR function. Among other types, Type 4) and 5) merits some explanation since they demonstrate an integration of a recent technology into language learning. GPT-based grammar practices, for example, will provide to language learners self-tutored language learning experiences since they get an immediate feedback such as correction to grammar errors from the ChatGPT engine. Likewise, language learners can practice listening to/reading/speaking the sentences through NLP based breath grouping techniques.

The presentation will conclude that Edutem’s AI system will not only increase the efficiency of language learning on the part of languages learners, but also get them to be immersed with self-directed language learning.

Abstract Summary
This presentation is intended to introduce two major Al products for languages learning developed by an A.I. startup company, Edutem, Inc of Republic of Korea. The first one is an e-library system for English learning which consists of the following features: 1) diagnosis of reading levels, 2) calibrated recommendation to the readers’ level, and 3) various personalized learning activities by utilizing Al technology. It currently houses more than 500 English readers, the levels of which range from pre-1 to C1. Through this e-library Al system English learners can practice multifaceted pronunciation training, vocabulary learning, and reading comprehension exercises. The other one is an Al Engine which encompasses such technology as ASR and speech separation and synthesis), AI chunking, and NLU/NLG. This AI engine enables learners to learn English, Korean, Chinese and Spanish, which will not only enhance their learning motivation, but also reduce the time for reaching their next level.
