The Swedish organization Dispurse has been offering a free and digitally based literacy program (DLP) in Peru since 2017. The target group is women living in remote areas, who have not had access to education due to geographical, social, financial and pedagogical circumstances.

A central part of the DLP is the digital application FOCUS, which is used on tablets and works without wi-fi. Using FOCUS, supported by educated facilitators visiting their homes, the Quechua and Spanish speaking women can access a literacy training on their terms.

The DLP is based on Freebody and Luke's Four Resources Model and its four literacy practices; codebreaking, meaning making, social text using, and analyzing practises. These are combined with three learner resources in a structured process that takes into account that literacy and text often are multimodal, analog or digital and always imbedded in real life situations.

We highlight how digital tools can be combined with individual and group sessions that can lead to practical changes and agency for the learner . We hope to contribute to increased inspiration for using digital tools in literacy training for adults.
