French language is currently taught as a foreign language for both secondary and tertiary level students in Sri Lanka. Due to rapid digitalization of language learning and teaching, there are online websites and software applications available for learning and teaching French language around the world. Nevertheless, French language teaching in Sri Lanka is still based on traditional pedagogical methods such as Grammar- Translation method. Therefore, due to the demand for French language education in Sri Lanka, there is a growing need to introduce online platforms to cater to learners' needs. This study aims to examine a selection of useful websites and software applications that offer resources for French language acquisition among the French language learners. There are several websites available to study such as Duolingo, Learn French with Alexa, French Together, TV5MONDE that offer online resources for learning French. These websites vary in terms of their content, teaching methods, and user interface. They provide videos, exercises, and interactive activities to help learners improve the language competencies. The present study focuses on the effectiveness, user experience, and suitability of these websites for both learners and teachers, and how they could be incorporated into French language studying. A mixed-methods research approach will be employed, using both qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. The analysis of the data will provide a comprehensive overview of learners' experiences and explore aspects such as the website's instructional design, learner engagement, and the website's contribution to promoting a holistic language learning environment. The research will assess various aspects such as the quality and relevancy of content, interactive features, user interface, and pedagogical approach as well. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the significance of integrating online platforms into French language teaching in Sri Lanka. Ultimately, the outcomes of this evaluative study will provide valuable insights into the potential of websites and software applications in supporting French language education in Sri Lanka and inform future developments in online language learning platforms.

Abstract Summary
At present, enhanced technology is used in education to facilitate language learning process. Learners can choose the one that aligns best with their learning preferences and goals. The study will focus on assessing the content relevance, pedagogical approach, user-friendliness, interactivity, and overall user experience provided by these websites. In the qualitative phase, interviews will be conducted with French language teachers and learners to gain insights into their perceptions and experiences on learning or teaching French language in Sri Lanka. Data will be collected through user surveys, interviews, and analysis of website features. These surveys aim to gather information regarding learners' preferences, satisfaction levels, and perceived effectiveness of the websites. The study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge and understanding of online language learning strategies within the Sri Lankan context.
